The Role

You will:

  • Lead and manage audit engagements for a portfolio of Japan and wider East Asia–linked clients (including UK subsidiaries of international groups and fast‑growing businesses).
  • Plan and deliver audits under UK auditing standards, overseeing on‑site/remote fieldwork and reviewing work prepared by Seniors and juniors.
  • Review financial statements under UK GAAP (and IFRS where applicable) and address complex areas such as revenue, group reporting, going concern and estimates.
  • Act as day‑to‑day contact for Japanese and UK stakeholders, using your Japanese language skills to liaise with overseas parent companies and finance teams.
  • Work closely with tax and advisory teams and contribute to refining audit processes within the international/East Asia desk.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong external audit background in an accountancy practice or professional services firm.
  • Experience with SMEs, owner‑managed businesses and/or international groups.
  • Solid knowledge of UK GAAP and UK auditing standards (IFRS exposure beneficial).
  • Fluent or highly proficient in Japanese (spoken and written); able to explain complex issues clearly to non‑UK stakeholders.
  • ACA / ACCA qualified (or equivalent).
  • Organised, detail‑focused and comfortable managing multiple engagements in a fast‑paced, international environment.

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive salary plus study support where relevant and a comprehensive benefits package.
  • Hybrid and flexible working within a modern framework designed to balance client needs with work–life integration.
  • A genuinely nurturing, collaborative culture with clear career pathways and strong partner/manager support.
  • Inclusive, people‑focused environment with extensive learning & development, coaching and regular social and networking opportunities.

If you are an experienced UK audit professional who is fluent in Japanese and keen to build a niche in Japan & East Asia–focused work, please contact Baker Thornton for a confidential discussion or submit your CV to be considered
