Baker Thornton is partnering with a well-established professional services firm in Edinburgh to hire a Tax Manager. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys managing a varied portfolio, leading on compliance, and contributing to advisory work as the practice continues to grow.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a mixed portfolio of personal and corporate tax clients across a range of sectors, acting as a primary point of contact.
  • Review self-assessment and corporation tax returns, ensuring accurate filings and on-time submissions.
  • Oversee client deadlines, workflow, and billing, maintaining high standards of quality and client care.
  • Provide clear, practical guidance on UK tax matters such as income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, residency and domicile considerations, and corporation tax.
  • Identify planning opportunities and support senior colleagues on bespoke advisory projects and technical research.
  • Mentor and review the work of junior team members, providing coaching, feedback, and on-the-job training.
  • Build strong client relationships through proactive communication and commercially grounded advice.
  • Liaise with HMRC and other stakeholders to resolve queries efficiently.
 Requirements

  • A relevant tax or accountancy qualification (ATT, CTA, ACA, or ACCA) or strong QBE experience in a similar role.
  • Solid UK tax technical knowledge across personal and corporate tax, with the ability to translate complexity into actionable advice.
  • Experience managing a client portfolio, reviewing returns, and supervising junior colleagues.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator with a collaborative approach and a focus on client service.
  • Proficiency with tax compliance software and Excel; an appetite to develop further through CPD.
