Overview

Our client is a long-established, London-based tax, accounting and business advisory firm with a strong reputation for technical excellence and long-term client relationships. They are building a dedicated China and East Asia Business Desk and are recruiting Tax professionals at multiple levels (from Advisor/Senior through to Senior Manager) with strong UK tax experience and fluency in Mandarin, Japanese or Korean (at least one is mandatory).
You will work with China, Korea, Japan and wider East Asia–linked clients across corporate, inbound and private client tax, acting as a key bridge between UK technical requirements and non‑UK stakeholders. The role combines hands‑on compliance with advisory work and offers clear scope to shape and grow a specialist East Asia-focused portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
Client Advisory & Compliance
  • Manage a portfolio of China, Korea, Japan and East Asia–linked clients (corporate and/or high‑net‑worth individuals), delivering high-quality UK tax compliance and advisory services.
  • Advise on UK and global tax implications of inbound investment, UK business establishment, group structuring and reorganisation.
  • Prepare and review UK tax returns and computations (corporate and/or personal, depending on your background).
  • Support clients with HMRC and relevant international tax enquiries, disclosures and correspondence, providing clear, practical guidance.
  • Identify tax risks and planning opportunities and present clear recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders.
East Asia Market Focus
  • Use Mandarin, Japanese or Korean language skills to liaise with clients, prospective clients and internal stakeholders across the China/East Asia market.
  • Translate complex UK tax concepts into clear, actionable advice for non‑UK stakeholders.
  • Support the development of internal know‑how on China/East Asia inbound tax issues.
  • Contribute to the growth of the China Business Desk by spotting new business opportunities and supporting pitches and proposals.
Relationship Management
  • Act as a key point of contact for allocated clients, building strong, long-term advisory relationships.
  • Work with partners and senior management to cross-sell tax and wider firm services to China/East Asia–linked clients.
  • Participate in networking, seminars, webinars and marketing initiatives targeted at the China/East Asia community.
  • Contribute to thought leadership, internal training and client alerts on inbound and international tax topics.
Team Leadership & Development
(emphasis increases with seniority – Senior/Manager level)
  • Review work prepared by junior team members, providing clear, constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Supervise and mentor trainees and newly qualified staff, supporting their technical and professional development.
  • Help to shape processes, workflows and best practice within the China and East Asia Business Desk.
  • At Manager level: take an active role in resourcing, budgeting and WIP management for assigned client portfolios.
Candidate Profile
Essential
  • Strong experience in UK tax within an accountancy practice or professional services firm.
  • Background in one or more of: corporate tax, private client tax, international/inbound tax, or owner‑managed business tax.
  • Fluent or highly proficient in at least one of the following languages (spoken and written is preferred): Mandarin, Japanese or Korean – this is mandatory.
  • Strong communication skills, able to explain complex UK tax issues clearly to non‑specialists.
  • Commercial and entrepreneurial mindset; comfortable working in a growing, evolving international desk where roles may be shaped around high‑quality candidates.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines.
Desirable
  • Experience working with international groups, inbound investors or high‑net‑worth individuals with cross-border affairs.
  • Exposure to Chinese, Korean, Japanese or wider East Asia–based clients or markets.
Qualifications
  • Professionally qualified or near-qualified in tax or accountancy.
  • CTA (or near-complete) is strongly preferred at Manager level.
  • ACA / ACCA / ATT or equivalent also considered across levels.
  • Ongoing commitment to CPD and technical development.
Ideal for
Tax professionals at Advisor, Senior or Manager level who enjoy client-facing advisory work, want to build or deepen a niche in the China and East Asia inbound market, and are looking for a role with clear growth potential in a specialist international desk.
