We place audit, tax, and accounting professionals in UK, USA and Canada accounting and CPA firms
Baker Thornton has been engaged by a highly regarded mid-market tax and advisory firm in London to identify a US/UK Tax Senior (dual handler) to join their growing global mobility team. This is not a pure compliance “production line” role, it’s an opportunity to step into a more rounded position combining complex compliance with genuine consulting exposure and a clear path to grow with the practice.
You’ll be joining a collaborative team that sits at the heart of the firm’s international offering, working closely with senior stakeholders on cross‑border mobility, expat, and payroll-related issues for an international corporate client base.
This Senior US/UK Tax Senior (Global Mobility) role will suit someone already operating in the dual handler space who is ready for greater ownership of corporate portfolios, direct client contact, and increased advisory responsibility. Typical responsibilities will include:
Managing a portfolio of corporate global mobility programmes and expatriate assignee populations, overseeing US and UK tax compliance for internationally mobile employees.
Preparing and reviewing US and UK individual tax returns for assignees and senior executives, including more complex and high‑profile cases.
Advising corporate clients on global mobility and expatriate tax issues, including tax equalisation policies, hypothetical tax, shadow payroll, and assignment structuring.
Liaising with corporate clients, assignees, payroll providers, and internal teams to resolve technical and practical issues in a timely manner.
Supporting broader advisory projects around global mobility policy design, cross‑border assignment structuring, cost projection, and tax risk management.
Contributing to the growth and development of the firm’s US/global mobility tax capability, bringing an entrepreneurial mindset to process improvement, technology use, and service development.
You will have room to shape the role as the US/global mobility practice continues to grow, with opportunities to mentor and support more junior team members as the team scales.
We are looking to speak with candidates who can broadly demonstrate:
Around 2–4 years’ experience in the market working in US/UK dual handler roles – typically within corporate global mobility or expatriate tax teams in practice.
Solid grounding in both US and UK personal tax compliance for globally mobile employees, with experience covering expatriate populations, tax equalisation, hypothetical tax and payroll-related topics (including shadow payroll).
- Enrolled Agent (EA) – ideally qualified or actively studying or ATT preferred or working towards a relevant UK tax qualification.
Entrepreneurial approach – someone who enjoys helping to build and shape a growing US/global mobility tax platform rather than just processing returns.
Comfortable in an environment offering a blend of compliance and genuine consulting/advisory exposure to corporate clients.
Strong communication skills, confident dealing directly with HR, reward, mobility and finance stakeholders as well as assignees.
Opportunity to move away from a pure compliance production environment into a more balanced compliance + advisory position focused on corporate global mobility.
Direct involvement in shaping and growing the US/global mobility tax platform within a respected firm.
High-quality exposure to complex global mobility and expatriate issues for an international corporate client base – ideal for someone who enjoys technical depth and stakeholder interaction.
Competitive salary with a premium for true dual handler and corporate global mobility experience and qualifications.
